If there’s anything a southern girl knows, it’s that there’s always sweet tea in the fridge and our house always smells nice. I mean, why do you think we’re always sniffing candles at TJMAXX and they sending us coupons from Bath and Body Works #Facts
Any who, I LOVE a good candle don’t get me wrong, but with kids and, lets face it, money I ain’t got time for it. So I’ve come up with a solution: potpourri. I am not talking about the poo poo spray before you do a #2, but the one that goes on your stove.
This cool hack is almost like a diffuser, but with ingredients you may already have in your pantry. You toss everything into a pot, add water, then let it simmer for hours or even days. Your house AND wallet will thank you.
Here are some of my favorite combinations. Enjoy!
General Potpourri Recipe
Instructions
- Fill a medium sized pot 3/4 full of water, add the ingredients (variation listed below)
- Bring the pot to a boil for 3-4 minutes. Then bring the pot down to a simmer
- Let is simmer for as long as you'd like, but make sure to keep an eye out on the water level. If it starts to get low, simply add more water
- You can save the mixture in a mason jar; put it in fridge. Then take it out and reuse it. It can last several days
Notes
- After the water boils, you can leave it in the pot or transfer it to a small crockpot and just leave it. Remember to keep an eye on the water level
- A good tip: If you have any dry spices, give them a little toast with a small pan on medium heat. This will release more of the aroma
