Our remodel journey
Yes, this is our home in Eastern Kentucky. Reed had always dreamed of a log cabin with a green tin roof….well here it is in all it’s glory. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I am VERY grateful for this house. It just isn’t my style. We didn’t get the chance to do much of anatyhign on the exterior, but we did a WHOLE lot on the interior.
We are are amateur DIY people, me more than Reed. BUT Reed ended up surprising me just as much as himself, with all that he could do. We thought to ourselves, let’s start with the simplest thing that’ll make the biggest impact: paint. I am here to tell you first hand, it looks fantastic, BUT it was a VERY grueling process. I HATE painting after this. Now I see why people pay other people to paint. I’m pretty sure I got tennis elbow after just ONE wall, ha!
The paint color we decide to go with throughout the house was called Agreeable Grey by Sherwin Williams. For all the walls we went with an eggshell finish because ya know, kids. So we wanted a durable paint and Valspar did NOT disappoint. Since we are in a darker log cabin, I want the house to still look clean and fresh on the inside. The house has beautiful wood paneling, trim and floors. We wanted a paint color that was in the beige family to complement the rich tones of the wood, but still look grey. This could not have been a more perfect color.
When me moved in, we LITERALLY just built a house back home in MS 6 months ago. I know, we’re crazy! Hey, God has a plan for us and we are trueing HIM fully. Any who, back home we had a HUGE pantry, walk in and floor to ceiling shelves. It needed to be big because I like to cook and we are a multi-cultural family. That means, I had a side of the pantry for my Vietnamese products and the other side for my American products. I believe food is a universal language and it connects us in way words simply cannot.
The log cabin did not have a walk-in pantry, it had a pantry shelf cabinet. I told Reed I needed to have a pantry with shelves so we could store ALL our foods. Mind you, Reed has NEVER built ANYTHING before, but he did watch our contractor build ours back home. So with an idea in mind and multiple trips to Lowes later, hubbs did it! We actually combined the laundry room and pantry together; this was the most practical place to share it. OH! And to add some aesthetics to the room, hubbs also put in farmhouse shelves above the washer and dryer. I think I’ll keep him 😉
Now onto a location in which no one likes to talk about: the bathrooms. I don ‘t know about y’all, but I have n OCD issue when it comes to bathrooms. It HAS to be spotless, cleaned with bleach daily (I know, that’s horrible) , and mopped almost daily too (thanks to the boys). My OCD gets REALLY bad when the bathrooms don’t look a certain way. Like, if it looks dark or dated, I feel like the I’m doing my business in a dungeon. No? Just me? I thought so. Anyways, we updated the bathroom downstairs with a coat of paint, new light fixture and some decor.
The master bathroom upstairs is a COMPLETELY different story. That bathroom gave us a run for our money. The color scheme was off, it was dated, and it just needed some TLC after 10 + years. So the 1st thing we did was take down the dated chair rails, filled in the holes, sanded, and started painting. Then we added the self above the toilet, changed out the vanity, added a new light , and brought some decor in. It looks totally different and brighter in there now. We would have eventually wanted to change out the shower, but it wasn’t in the budget at the time.
Last, but not least the mastebedrrom. This was just just as tough and challenging as the master bathroom . It has the same color scheme and chair rails all around. Plus, it has weird angles which made it difficult to paint. Me and Reed wanted the master to have a different feeling than the rest of the house. We wanted it to feel like a true log cabin, but not too dark. We ended up going for a brighter green / blue color Geyser Steam by sherwin Williams. This color is absolutely stunning. Depending on how the light hits it, it really looks green or blue plus an extra bonus, this colors goes fantastic aired with the oak colored trim.
Well, we have definitely enjoyed polishing up this house. I know there is a lot more I would like to do to it, but the reality is that we will be moving back home in a few weeks. I just hope the next person who comes into this home, will be able to enjoy the small upgrades we made to it. Until next time you Lincoln Log house

I love your color choices, and I love that you shared the color names and brands. It’s a real bummer when someone posts pics of their beautiful paint but doesn’t share the info. Y’all just jumped in and breathed new life into that house. Well done.
